چکیده
succinate contained increasing amounts of wax as the specific growth rate decreased from 0.7h-I to 0.12h-I. The wax composition also varied with dilution rate, samples having a high wax content had palmitic acid and palmityl alcohol as major components. In continuous culture with succinate limitation and excess of nitrogen, the bacteria contained only small amounts of waxes, which increased slightly with increasing specific growth rate. Acinetobacter calcoaceticus N.C.I.B. 8250 contains simple waxes as do other strains of this group. The wax content of the organism increases markedly in nitrogen-limiting conditions in continuous culture and stationary-phase batch culture. The accumulation of waxes under these conditions and not during carbon-limited growth may indicate that waxes in this organism play a role as storage product.

Detection of the dipicolinic acid biomarker in Bacillus spores using Curie-point pyrolysis mass spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
Thirty-six strains of aerobic endospore-forming bacteria confirmed by polyphasic taxonomic methods to belong to Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus subtilis (including Bacillus niger and Bacillus globigii), Bacillus sphaericus, and Brevi laterosporus were grown axenically on nutrient agar, and vegetative and sporulated biomasses wer...
متن کاملThe nutritional requirements for germination and outgrowth of spores and vegetative cell growth of some aerobic spore forming bacteria.
During the last 10 years the subject of bacterial spore germination has been intensively investigated. In most of these studies it has been found that bacterial spores are capable of germination under conditions which do not permit the germinated form to survive (Schmidt, 1955; Stedman, 1956). Hills (1949) pointed out that a distinction must be drawn between the requirements for germination and...

Five different sporulation medium such as tryptone yeast extract (TYE) broth, tryptone glucose yeast extract (TGYE) broth, minimal media, Sucrose salt medium, Arret & Krishbaum (AK)sporulation agar were screened for spore production in Bacillus megaterium ATCC 9885. During this study, it was observed that out of different combinations of tryptone, yeast extract and dextrose sporulation was maxi...
متن کاملBiochemical studies of bacterial sporulation and germination. X. Ribosomes and nucleic acids of vegetative cells and spores of Bacillus megaterium.
The ribosomal particles and nucleic acid components of Bacillus megaterium log phase cells and spores were isolated and compared. Analysis of the total RNA indicated that 23 S, 16 S, and 4 S components were present, in the same relative proportions in both cases. Soluble RNA was 19% of vegetative cell RNA and 21% of spore RNA. Particles sedimenting at values greater than 100 S and sensitive to ...
متن کاملEnolase from spores and cells of Bacillus megaterium: two-step purification of the enzyme and some of its properties.
A simple two-step procedure for purification of enolase from germinated spores or vegetative cells of Bacillus megaterium is described. The procedure resulted in a 1,200-fold purification with production of homogeneous enzyme in approximately 75% yield; the enzymes from spores and cells seemed identical. The molecular weight of the native enzyme was 335,000, with a subunit molecular weight of 4...
